I’d like to plug an upcoming conference that Jurgen Reinhoudt, a colleague of mine at the American Enterprise Institute, is helping to organize. Speakers at the February 20 event will address ways in which Western European economies, often thought to be stagnant and hidebound, are implementing effective market-based reforms in areas like pensions, energy, and education. Of greatest interest to my Washington-based readers will likely be the panel on transportation reforms in Europe, which will include a discussion of air traffic control privatization with Eugene Hoeven of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation. ATC expert par excellence Robert Poole will moderate the session. The panel begins at 1 p.m. Click here to register for the conference and to see the rest of the schedule. If you plan to attend the conference, be sure to e-mail me so I can say hello.
