We’re still dealing with Carter’s failed deregulation of the airline industry. The legacy carriers had so much pre-deregulation baggage they are still dealing with. It’s like it would have been better to have folded and restarted anew. Fact is there are too many domestic seats going empty. Consolidation is necessary…despite what the union whiners say.
“Too many domestic seats going empty”? Although load factors are falling due to the recession, they are still at historical highs. There are far fewer empty seats than during regulation.
